A site to find out what's going on in my art business and to talk about my art.
About Me
- Mary-Anna Welch
- Beavercreek, Ohio, United States
- Mary-Anna Welch is an artist from Beavercreek, Ohio. Upon receiving her BFA and MA from the University of Illinois in Art Education, she shared her love of art in the private and public school systems for over 10 years. After experimenting with several different mediums, she has rediscovered her passion for painting and has settled on watercolor as her main focus. Her work in watercolors has evolved from the very abstract to a more graphic, non-traditional interpretation of her subject. She has incorporated her painting techniques that she used in oil to blend color on the canvas and translated these in her watercolor painting. This results in a blend of traditional colors and images with contemporary styles and forms. When asked about her subject matter, Mary-Anna responds, “I have a black thumb and can not grow anything but weeds. By painting my garden I will always have a rainbow of colors to enjoy no matter what season it is.” Mary-Anna continues to share her love of art by teaching art classes in her studio and at the local art center. You can find her busy painting in her studio or out at gathering ideas in a nearby garden.

Art for Life Charity Auction
I have donated one of my paintings to Art for Life. As it states on the website, the "Columbus AIDS Task Force invites you to attend Art for Life 2008 the premier art event in Ohio. Join in the charity auction of artwork from some of the most talented artists. Through their generous donations, Columbus AIDS Task Force is able to continue its efforts in the areas of prevention, outreach and education." I thought this was a worthy cause. Check out the website at www.afl2008.org or come to the reception on May 10th at the Columbus City Center.
I have donated my original watercolor painting, "Peonies" to this wonderful cause.

Gallery Stroll in Chillicothe, OH
The Gallery Stroll in Chillicothe, OH where I showed 15 of my watercolor paintings at Ivy's Home and Garden Shop was a huge success! A big thank you to JoAnn Kunzelman and her wonderful staff for making me feel welcome and setting up a beautiful display of my work. They enjoyed my work so much, I was invited back in July. One of the comments I received was from Ted Fickisen, he said "Your work is very fresh, clear, simplistic and non-obtrusive. I think that is what people are looking for in such a mixed up world." For those who are interested, the Gallery Stroll is the second Saturday of the month. If you're in the area, go check it out!

What I've Been Up To.
Sorry I haven't written in awhile. I have been busy with illustrations for a new children's book a friend of mine has been writing. In the meantime, I met two wonderful artists at the Mac Worthington opening. The first one, Alanna Sage (you can check out her work at: (http://artbyarsage.webs.com/) is a wonderful acrylic artist. I especially like her work, "Dancing Ladies" that she had on exhibit. I also met Pam Geisel, (www.forquiltssake.com) who does these fantastic art quilts. In fact, I didn't realize I knew her until I saw her again. We worked together when I was exhibiting at the Glen Helen Nature Arts and Crafts show here in Ohio a couple of years back. Take some time and check these artists out!
